  1. The first CD in this pack was damaged even before writing :( . Well, I was able to write the second one without issues. Hope the rest of them would be fine too.

  2. When I searched for “Light Scribe” enabled disks I was shown a set of 50 Memorex LightScribe DVD+R’s. Along with the a description that correctly followed the picture. After ordering and receiving my product I received a regular 50 pack of DVD-R’s that were not LightScribe.

I did not fault anyone until I went to Ritz’s customer service for help since they were the vendor. This was absolutely no help because I was told that I would be charged a 15% restocking fee as well as the additional shipping charge to return something that was not what I ordered in the first place. Never once was I offered by Ritz to simply swap the items out for what I had thought I was supposed to be receiving. I was told that Amazon’s website probably led to an improperly labled or completed item and that was the reason for the mix up but that it should now be properly displayed…and it was for a 10 dollars more than what I had paid for.

I understand when mistakes are made and if website updates cause problems with improper links being followed on similar items, but the way in which Ritz Camera and their policies handled this situation was shameful and I intend to never purchase anything from them either online or at local stores again for the sly way in which they covered their own foul up.

If these were free, i’d still would not recommend them, due to all the time that you will waste with faulty recordings.

It is the discs, I must assume, since my burner works fine with other brands.

Anyway, (now) I think it’s best to invest a bit more and get good media…

I’ve got a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1673S burner (Revision JS02) in my fast G4 Mac running OS X Tiger and burning with Toast Titanium 7. Although my burner is nominally 16X-capable, it only burns at about 6X in my setup, probably due to the slow (ATA 33) bus it’s on.

I’ve used a number of different brands of 8X and 16X disks, both +R and -R, and have had a verification failure rate of less than 2% — so few, in fact, that I often don’t bother verifying video DVD’s anymore when burning TDK or Maxell discs. (I always verify data DVD’s, since errors in those are not ignorable.) But with Memorex, I’ve gotten about 20% failures, including a couple of aborted burns! In one case, the disc had a blank band between two burned ones!

The Memorex discs I’m referring to have Manufacturer ID “CMC MAG, AM3″. According to videohelp.com, these are sold under at least 7 different brand names. The reviews there are rather mixed, which is not IMHO good enough!

I have not, BTW, have had any problems with the Memorex DVD+R discs I’ve tried. But I stopped using them because one of my players won’t recognize the +R format.
